Cost: $1000 Includes light breakfast and lunch.

Two-Day Introduction to the 6-8 Curriculum
Working with an IM certified facilitator, participants explore the problem-based lesson structure of the curriculum and learn to leverage both the 5 Practices framework and instructional routines to foster student discourse. Participants also discover embedded mathematical routines for English learners and prepare to teach Unit 1.

Virtual Trainings (2 hours per session)

Get an overview of the Grades 6-8 units to gain an understanding of the important mathematical ideas you’ll cover, with time reserved for Q&A.  These trainings will be scheduled approximately once per month throughout the school year.

Participant Learning Outcomes

  • Review how the curriculum builds coherence through purposeful sequencing of activities, lessons, and units.
  • Learn how the curriculum balances conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and applications.
  • Explore how the curriculum uses practice problems, extensions, and assessments.
  • Discover how the materials support students’ mathematical language development, particularly for English language learners.
  • Internalize the importance of norms in a discourse-driven classroom.
  • Discuss how the curriculum uses the 5 Practices framework, norms, and routines.
  • Implement number talks and info gaps.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellations made more than 180 days prior to this event will receive a full refund minus a processing fee of $25. Cancellations made between 180 and 30 days of the event will receive a 50% refund minus a processing fee of $25. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 30 days of the event.

*Courses will not run if enrollment is less than 6 participants. In the case of low enrollment refunds will be issued.

This workshop will be capped at 32 participants. The deadline to register is March 13, 2019.
