Focusing on What Matters Most: Meeting Student Needs through a Cycle of Inquiry

April 13 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Join Student Achievement Partners to explore tools, practices, and processes for completing a teaching and learning cycle of inquiry.

The Math Institute is excited to partner with Student Achievement Partners on this virtual professional learning opportunity for K-12 educators and math leaders.

Focusing on What Matters Most: Meeting Student Needs through a Cycle of Inquiry

In this three part series, you will experience and understand the tools, practices, and processes for completing a teaching and learning cycle of inquiry to determine and act on where students are in their mathematical understanding in order to finish the school year strong.

Part one (sessions 1 & 2) will guide you through a cycle of inquiry examining priority content in your grade or course and planning for assessment that makes student thinking visible so you will know what students understand and what understanding they need additional instruction on.

Part two (session 3) will include time to consider strategies that support student learning using student work.

Part three (session 4) concludes with analyzing the results of instruction based on evidence of student learning so next steps can be taken. In this session participants will also reflect on the teaching and learning cycle of inquiry and how it can be incorporated into regular practice throughout the school year.

During all sessions participants will engage with ideas to support students’ social, emotional and academic development. After attending all sessions you will walk away with a practical process to understand student thinking, plan instruction, and analyze student learning.

Goals:

  • Increased understanding of the tools, practices, and processes for determining where students are and what they need moving forward
  • Increased collaboration on the teaching and learning inquiry cycle to share with your school, or district and use in your own teaching
  • Increased access to quality resources for assessing, understanding and planning math instruction
