As a math coach, your daily work revolves around partnering with others to achieve the goal of student success in mathematics. Our coaching workshops focus on leadership skills, math content knowledge, and beliefs to empower coaches to support teachers with a range of backgrounds. Designed for math coaches, math specialists, math lead teachers, and anyone else who falls into a mathematics leadership role, these workshops will:

Coaching

Cognitive Coaching Seminars® Foundation Training

Overview

Cognitive Coaching℠ is a form of mediation that can be applied to professional interactions in a variety of settings and situations with the intention of enhancing self-directed learning. It is a composite of skills, strategies, maps, and tools as well as mental models and beliefs. It is also a model for classroom mediation to enhance students’ self-directed learning. Research on Cognitive Coaching℠ has linked its implementation to increased student achievement, greater teacher efficacy and satisfaction, higher levels of teacher cognition and professional, collaborative cultures. As a result of engaging in the Foundational Training, participants will develop understanding of two structured conversations for planning and reflecting. In addition, they will develop knowledge and skills for expanding teacher thinking.

Empowering Emerging Math Coaches (Coaching Part I)

Overview

Are you at the start of your journey as a math coach?

Are you an instructional coach who is new to coaching mathematics?

The Emerging coaches workshop is designed to help math coaches investigate how to provide optimal learning opportunities for students while supporting teachers in their instruction. During the four day workshop, participants will utilize coaching skills and the coaching cycle while connecting standards and teaching to opportunities and outcomes for each and every student. Emerging coaches will build their repertoire of coaching strategies with the goal of developing mathematically proficient students.

  • Understanding critical standards progressions in mathematics
  • Examining shifts in classroom practice and their impact on student understanding

Learning and Leading for Math Coaches (Coaching Part II)

Overview

Are you a math coach looking for innovative ways to support teachers in the teaching and learning of mathematics?

Are you working to build capacity in mathematics instruction?

Part II in our coaching series, the Learning and Leading workshop explores ways to improve student learning in mathematics while supporting teachers as they make shifts in their classroom practice. The four day workshop is designed around a framework that coaches can use to create an environment that fosters teachers’ abilities to reflect upon and strengthen their teaching practices. Participants will develop the skills to build a professional learning community while enhancing the learning of each and every student.

  • Examining teaching skills that support shifting classroom practices
  • Supporting teachers implementing high-leverage teaching practices in mathematics
