IM Math: Curriculum Overviews

IM K-5 Math: Pilot Curriculum Overview

What is problem-based instruction and how do I implement it in my classroom using the IM K–5 Math curriculum? In this virtual event, teachers will be introduced to the overall structure and design of the curriculum. They will see an outline of a lesson plan and be exposed to other various components of the curriculum including centers, support for English language learners, support for students with disabilities, and routines. After this training, teachers will be ready to explore and pilot a single unit in their classrooms.

IM 6-12 Math: Curriculum Overview

Are you considering the IM Math curriculum as part of your curriculum adoption process? This virtual event provides a preview of the IM Math curriculum before piloting or implementing the curriculum. It provides a survey of the IM curriculum with a focus on the philosophy and instructional shifts and the resources available in the curriculum around student understanding and discourse, planning, assessment, and instructional routines.

Two-Day Introduction to the Curriculum

During this two-day event, participants will be guided by an IM Certified facilitator to gain first-hand experience and fluency with the IM curricula.

Participants will understand:

  • the structure of a lesson and the purpose of each component
  • where to find teacher and student resources in the curriculum
  • the purposes of different curriculum assessments and where to find opportunities for assessment
  • how instructional supports and extensions are used throughout the curriculum
  • the purpose of math content routines
  • the 5 Practices framework for productive discussion and how the framework supports teachers in their planning
  • the purpose of math language routines and how the routines support mathematical language development
  • a process for planning to teach a lesson in Unit 1and how the activities in a lesson are connected to the learning goal
  • the importance of norms in a problem-based classroom and considerations for establishing norms in the classroom

A virtual adaptation of the IM Learning™ Instructional Academy. During this two-day online event, participants will join an IM Certified facilitator for an overview of the IM curricula.

IM Virtual Unit Overviews

Scheduled approximately once a month during the school year, Virtual Unit Overviews help teachers make more effective instructional decisions such as engaging students, effective questioning, pacing, formative assessment, and differentiation. Learn how to spotlight big ideas within a unit and how learning goals across lessons support effective planning. IM Virtual Unit Overviews can be taken on their own or in conjunction with an IM Academy.
