Understanding & Supporting Students’ Understanding of the tie that binds Fractions, Proportional Reasoning, Linear Relationships, Functions
Objectives:
- Examine what deep proportional reasoning looks like and how it ties to a deep understanding of fractions.
- Understand how proportional reasoning leads to understanding of linear relationships and functions.
- Consider teaching tools and strategies that support students’ understanding of the fraction to functions progression, as well as “just in time” support when students come with unfinished learning in these areas.
- Leave with practical resources and ideas to support building a deep understanding of the elements of this progression in the classroom.
